Textured Beanie Crochet Pattern with Real Hat-titude

Just in time to make for Christmas gifts !
I’m getting ready for a boutique next month, and have been working on items to fill my booth.   During the midst of all of this, I needed to get creative again. I wanted to have something that was my own personal design, so I sat, and brainstormed, and drew, and crocheted, and unraveled, and started over… again and again.   After 4 days, here’s the end result of my mini quest.

I really like this hat, it gives a different look to the typical beanie, and even though the photo’s shown from a woman’s perspective, it would actually look great on a man too.  It’s simple enough to make, and you can pretty much do it with only half a skein of yarn.

I've received so much response to this hat that I have decided to sell my pattern for others to use as well.  You can purchase the Pattern Here at my Etsy Shop. It's available in PDF downloadable format and will be emailed to you within 24 hours of purchasing.

The pattern is written in English only, and the level is Easy.  However, knowledge of the following terminology and stitches is needed to complete the project.

Terminology:
Ch: chain
Hdc: Half double crochet
Sc: single crochet
St: Stich

BLO: Back Loop Only
FLO: Front Loop Only

  1. I love the hat. It looks like it wouldn't be that bad to make. I haven't crocheted in a long time. I'm a new follower of yours also. I found your blog on MBC.

  2. You did a great job on the hat! I can't believe you just made it up yourself - you're so great at stuff like that. Good luck on your boutique next month. I hope you sell a lot.

  3. Thanks Michelle, Even though I've been crocheting for over 30 years, I'm actually a newbie with reading and writing patterns. Because of that, all of my designs are easy enough for beginners, or for those just getting back into the craft.

Thanks Brenda! I'm so excited to get started on more patterns.

  4. LOVE this hat, and I can't wait to make it! On rows 7-14, you state to do HDc alternating through front and back loops. I'm fairly new to crocheting, but wanted to ask you if you mean to alternate front and back loop in each stitch, or to do all front loop in row 7, then all back loop in row 8? Does my question make sense?

Thanks for sharing your pattern for free!

  5. Hi Laralynn, Thanks for stopping by and giving this pattern a try. I do have to admit that sometimes patterns can be a bit tricky, so I'm glad you asked.

Alternating through front and back loops is done with each stitch. The first stitch will be through the front loop of the stitch in the previous round, the next stitch will go through the back loop of the next stitch in the previous round, (next one through front, next one through back, and so on). You will want to keep with this same method for each round. This method is what will give your hat the textured appearance. Keep in mind that you have so much flexibility with crochet, that even if you "mess up" on a round, you really haven't messed up at all, you've just added more personality to your hat.

Hopefully this helps. Give me a holler if you have any other questions. Would also love to see a finished picture of your hat.
